The New York Mets began their offseason losing out on Noah Syndergaard and losing the Stephen Matz ‘sweepstakes’ to the St. Louis Cardinals. With the early Hot Stove season woes, the Mets pivoted and landed a big fish in Free Agent Utility Specialist Eduardo Escobar!

The deal appears to be for two years at or around 20M with a third year club option. Escobar, a switch hitter who can basically play every infield position, offers the Mets a good deal of flexibility and is not only an average to above average hitter, but also an average fielder as well. His 28 Home Runs last year (22 with TOR, 6 with MIL) would have been good enough for 2nd on the Mets team last year, and his veteran leadership could go a long way in the Mets clubhouse. With 99 GP at 3rd, 42 at 2nd, and 18 at 1B certainly offers an intriguing opportunity for both the Mets, and Escobar as he will for sure see plenty of at bats, especially at 3rd. This appears to be the first of what could be a busy offseason for the Metropolitans, and with the CBA ending soon, more moves could be on the horizon.
