After the viral trash talk between the Louisville Cardinals and the Texas Longhorns on Tuesday, there was another incident that happened in the handshake line in the 2023 NCAA Women’s WNIT Tournament. This time however, it was more physical.
Last night in Bowling Green, Ohio, the Memphis Tigers and the Bowling Green State (BGSU) Falcons were lining up for the handshake line when Jamirah Shutes of Memphis went up and appeared to have punched BGSU star player Elissa Brett in the face, per Alejandro Avila of Outkick.com.
In the clip below by Jordan Strack, you can see in center court when Shutes comes up to Brett, talked for a few seconds until she took a swipe at Brett, knocking her over. Shutes was later taken off court by her teammates.
Avila has stated in his post that the incident is currently under investigation. The local authorities are expected to be involved per BGSU’s press statement.
Even as the dust begins to settle and tempers simmer down, Bowling Green State did beat Memphis 73-60. The Falcons will be playing against the Florida Gators at home in the next few days.
