Matthew McConaughey Texas Longhorn Recruiting Wiz

Written by Charlie Mitelhaus

At just about any big University of Texas sporting event it is common to see movie star and everyone’s favorite Lincoln promoter Matthew McConaughey roaming the sidelines, bench or dugout. This past weekend’s UT football spring game was no different. After finishing out last season with a Sugar Bowl win over the Georgia Bulldogs, the Longhorns return plenty of key contributors from that team including Austin, TX native, quarterback Sam Ehlinger. To date, Texas already has five recruits for the 2020 recruiting class.

Five-star running back Bijan Robinson from Salpointe Catholic High School visited Austin for the spring game coming in as the 26th ranked overall recruit from the class of 2020. He left with a lasting memory and a new famous friend. McConaughey made sure to introduce himself to the potential future Longhorn running back and told him to enjoy the recruiting process. Robinson later raved on how awesome it was to meet him. Will USC start using Will Ferrell as their recruiting pitchman? Will Iowa lure Ashton Kutcher into recruiting meetings? Time will tell, but it goes without saying that utilizing celebrities like McConaughey helps generate more buzz around a program.
