Matt Majkrzak Introduced as NMU’s Newest Head Men’s Basketball Coach

It was announced earlier Wednesday morning that the Northern Michigan University athletics program have introduced Matt Majkrzak (mack-er-zach) their newest head coach for the men’s basketball program.

Majkrzak takes over as coach after Bill Sall left for the same position at Calvin College.

Majkrzak comes up to Marquette after serving his lone season as head coach with the Bryant & Stratton College Bobcats in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In a report from WLUC-TV6, he led the team last season to 25-8 record, finishing 17th overall in the country, and No. 1 in the region.

The program also made their first NJCAA Division II Region IV championship appearance as well last season under his guidance.

Before joining Bryant & Stratton, Majkrzak also served as an assistant coach at Division II Bemidji State University in Bemidji, Minnesota from 2014-18.

Majkrzak will become the school’s 15th head coach in program history and is expected to return the majority of the team who posted back-to-back winning seasons and have made the GLIAC Basketball Tournament the last two seasons.

He will also seek options on replacing the team’s top two scorers and all-GLIAC teammates last season in point guard Naba Echols and guard/forward Isaiah Johnson.

Marquette Mining Journal sports writer Ryan Spitza has comments from Majkrzak on His first meeting with the team and what he plans to do coaching-wise in the future.
