Ever since Urban Meyer got caught getting lap dances at a bar in Ohio, the watch for his resignation was on.

The USC job was available and that made too much sense. The LSU job was open. And then there’s Notre Dame, a place Meyer knew really well given he was once an assistant coach there for five seasons.

But the USC job ended up going to Lincoln Riley. Brian Kelly decided to take the LSU job, which paved the way for Meyer to leave the Jacksonville Jaguars and go to Notre Dame.

Except now, defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman is expected to be the next head coach in South Bend.

Meyer stated this last week that he wasn’t interested in leaving the Jaguars for a college job and was fully committed to Jacksonville; a statement we once heard from Nick Saban when he was discussing the Miami Dolphins and then bolted to Alabama.

We all thought Meyer was doing the same thing, but maybe he isn’t. Maybe he really is staying with the Jaguars.

Who knows, maybe Meyer suddenly wants to go coach at Oklahoma. But for now, Meyer seems committed for the time being to the Jaguars and will try to make them relevant in the NFL again.
