To kick off their second night of the 2023 NFL Draft weekend, the Detroit Lions use their first of three second-round picks on tight end Sam LaPorta out of Iowa.
LaPorta comes to Detroit as the second Iowa Hawkeye selected in the Draft this weekend along with linebacker Jack Campbell. He’s also the first Iowa tight end to be to the Lions since TJ Hockenson in 2019.
He’ll head to Detroit that is fielding (on paper) a stout roster that has gotten better in the offseason and Draft.
Sam will join the likes of Brock Wright, James Mitchell, and Shane Zylstra in the crowded tight end room in the Lions locker room.
