The former University of Michigan Wolverine and wide receiver Devin Funchess is coming home as he is signing with his hometown team in the Detroit Lions.

Via Ari Meirov on Twitter, the signing will also come with a position change. The Farmington Hills native is listed as a tight end.

Though he played most of his career with the Carolina Panthers, the 2015 former second round pick recently on the roster with the Indianapolis Colts and Green Bay Packers, but was released in August 2021 with an injury settlement. He didn’t play in the 2020 season after opting out due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a wide receiver, Funchess recorded 164 catches for over 2,200 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Now that he is a tight end, he’ll join the likes of Pro Bowler TJ Hockenson, Brock Wright and 2022 fifth-round pick James Mitchell in Detroit.
