After missing significant field goals in an open practice at the Ford Field last weekend, the Detroit Lions are addressing the kicker situation as they are signing former Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns kicker Zane Gonzalez.
Gonzalez’s deal is reported to be a 1-year deal via reporter and former scouting director Mike McCartney.
This move was needed after kickers Randy Bullock and Matthew Wright both missed four field goals at around 53 yards out each.
Gonzalez provides experience to the special teams kicking core as they are looking to fill big shoes left by Pro Bowl and All-Pro kicker Matt Prater, who left for Arizona in the offseason. He currently has made 71 of 91 field goals in his career, with his longest being at 56 yards.
