LaMelo Ball and his Manager Purchased the Illawarra Hawks, the Australian NBL Team LaMelo has been Playing For

The Ball family has been in the news before for several things over the past couple of years. A lot of the time, it hasn’t necessarily been for good reasoning.

It’s either been Lavar poppin off about something stupid that made absolutely zero sense. Lonzo looking like another bad pick made by the Lakers early in the first round of the draft. Or even LiAngelo and some UCLA teammates attempting to steal from a Gucci store in China.

Finally, a member from the Ball family did something that’s actually pretty cool. LaMelo Ball and his manager, Jermaine Jackson, went all in and purchased the NBL team LaMelo has been playing for, the Illawarra Hawks.

To me, this is an interesting move made by the manager/player duo. Yes, you purchased a professional basketball team, and the team you have been playing for this season.

But this team is the only original team left from when the NBL started in 1979, and in all that time, the team only has one championship that they won in 2001.

Maybe this is something for LaMelo to fall back on if the NBA doesn’t work out in the next couple of seasons. Maybe this is something he can do and turn it into a family type business (ex. the Brown family with the Bengals) since Big Baller Brand didn’t work out.

Either way, this is a weird yet solid flex going into the NBA draft. Could you imagine getting drafted top five in the NBA draft and just not having a care in the world because if that doesn’t work out, not only do you get a big first round contract from whoever you were drafted by, but you ALREADY own a basketball team?? What a life this kid is living.
