Kurt Angle wrestled his final match two years ago at WWE WrestleMania 35. It was a long time coming to be honest and really felt like the ‘end’ for him. The company hyped up the event/moment/match in the leadup and even aired a great video package on the Raw episode before Mania.

Despite fans being aware of this epic career coming to a close and WWE even giving him a bit of a ‘farewell tour’ before WrestleMania 35, things still felt incomplete. His body had shut down, no doubt. Still, when all was said and done, Angle announced on WWE Raw that his final opponent at WM35 was going to be King Corbin. Still named Baron Corbin in April 2019. Yes, he was the man chosen to retire the former Olympic Gold Medalist and all-time great champion. In the HISTORY of the business in terms of athleticism, charisma, and in-ring abilities – Corbin was going to be his last foe.

Okay, fine. At least Angle was going to kick some booty and stand tall one last time, right? Angle Slam, Ankle Lock, and a standing ovation after a victory, right?

Wrong.

In roughly five minutes, Corbin defeated Angle. Boom. Just like that, it was over. Sure, he was able to get his moment at WrestleMania, but yeah, it still doesn’t entirely feel ‘right.’ Angle did thank the crowd afterwards and got a decent send off, but that is NOT what many had envisioned. No big rematch with a long-time rival. No classic. No victory or main event spotlight. Just a middle of the road match and a quick loss to a current heel…that mans fans felt was unworthy or undeserving of such an honor.

Either way though, you can’t invent a time machine and Men In Black us back to 2019. Angle lost to Corbin and is officially retired.

Or is he?

That is Kurt Angle teasing one final match against John Cena, who is rumored to be returning to WWE very soon. How poetic that would have been. Cena debuted against Angle, the two had many pay-per-view battles, Cena inducted Angle into the WWE HOF, and THAT would have been worthy of a WrestleMania farewell in 2019. It was not meant to be though. Cena was apparently really needed in that forgettable ‘rap battle’ with Elias at WM35 and didn’t even wrestle a match at the event. Doesn’t make much sense in hindsight, huh? No, it doesn’t.

While Angle is clearly just having fun here, it does make you think.

It’s true, it’s darn true.
