Kansas City Signs New Quarterback; QB Controversy in Indianapolis?

It was announced earlier today that the Kansas City Chiefs have made another move in the quarterback department. While it seems that all is well with Patrick Mahomes in the top spot, the Chiefs needed to add depth to the position. Earlier today, Kansas City signed undrafted free agent from SMU, Shane Buechele. The rookie agreed to terms with the Chiefs after going undrafted. Buechele will receive a $15,000 signing bonus plus a $160,000 base guarantee as a priority free agent, Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports.

In other quarterback news across the NFL, the Indianapolis Colts with the 218th overall pick of the draft, the Colts selected quarterback Sam Ehlinger out of Texas thus adding depth to the QB position. Earlier this year, Wentz was traded to the Colts in exchange for a third round pick in the 2021 draft. Many Colts fans were not pleased with Wentz being signed given his inconsistency with Philadelphia. The question is, if Ehlinger performs well in training camp and preseason, could he quickly usurp Wentz and become the new starter. It sounds like a lot of Colts fans are hopeful that one of their backups will step up to the plate and surpass Wentz to become the starter. Wentz’s arrival has not been met with the greatest enthusiasm. Only time will tell how everything will play itself out.
