The Philadelphia Sixers clinched a playoff berth tonight after the Brooklyn Nets lost to the surging Cleveland Cavaliers earlier tonight.

With the Denver Nuggets slumping in the past couple of weeks, Sixers big man Joel Embiid is gaining momentum towards his MVP campaign, leading the league in scoring while also anchoring Philadelphia’s defense during their recent run.

Embiid is currently averaging 33.6 PPG, 10.3 RPG, 4.1 APG, 1.1 SPG, and 1.8 BPG. He is a dominating presence both on offense and defense, which could help his case to be finally named this year’s MVP after years of coming short despite his impressive dominance.

While former league MVP James Harden has lost a step or two since his Houston Rockets days, he simplified his game by involving teammates more and is currently leading the league in assists per game.

There’s no doubt that the emergence of third-year guard Tyrese Maxey catapulted this team into contender status and many analysts are convinced that they have a great chance to represent the east in this year’s NBA Finals in June.

Though the Eastern Conference playoffs race isn’t as crazy compared to their Western Conference counterpart, the Sixers are still looking to finish within the top two seeds.
