Oilers fans, turn away. Everything was going great for Edmonton. Leon Draisaitl scored his first two goals of the series, Connor McDavid had three assists and the Oilers were up 4-1 with nine minutes left in the game. Then shit hit the fan, and it all stemmed from this low bridge hit by Josh Archibald on Logan Stanley.
I’d be surprised if Archibald wasn’t at least fined for this hit, let alone suspended. Mathieu Perrault scored on the subsequent powerplay.
Blake Wheeler would score about three minutes later. And then literally 16 seconds later….
Consider Edmonton’s momentum in this game completely lost. But the choke was completed three minutes into overtime by Nikolaj Ehlers.
Game 3 was Ehler’s return to the lineup after being out of commission for the last month. His first goal came in the first period. Game 4 is Monday night at 9:45 p.m. ET. If the Jets win, they sweep the series and will face the winner of the series between the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
