In the co-main event at tomorrow night’s Ring of Combat 75, we are slated for an absolute Barn Burner. James Gonzales is set to defend his bantamweight belt against Phil Caracappa, and this is an absolutely tremendous fight. I’m losing sleep thinking about it.

In the blue corner, we’ll have the challenger, New Jersey’s Phil Caracappa. Phil was the former ROC bantamweight champion, a belt that is now held by his opponent James Gonzalez, and he’s come to reclaim his throne.

Phil started his career at 6-0, then dropped a razor-thin decision in his bout on Dana White’s Contender Series, and is now looking to claw his way back to the ranks of the UFC. Caracappa’s a perfect 6-0 inside the Ring of Combat cage, and seeks to reclaim the dominance that he once maintained.

Staring Caracappa across the cage will be his successor, the current champion James Gonzalez. Trained by local legends Matt Serra and Ray Longo ‘Jitsu’ James touts an 8-4 record, winning 4 of his last 5 including a decision victory to defend the title in his last fight against Leeryan Douglas.

James is a BJJ blackbelt under Matt Serra, proving him to be an extreme threat on the ground. His third-round back take of Leeryan Douglas in his last fight secured him the decision victory in his first title defense. The 8-2 Caracappa will certainly put Gonzalez’s skills to the test, and make him prove his champion status.

This fight is really everything you want out of a regional fight. You have two proven champions going to battle against each other, both men young with a legitimate chance at UFC recognition. These are guys with proven skill levels, hungry to take their games to the next level. It’s the best of the best, and not to mention New York vs New Jersey. One more sleep.
