Former running back Jamaal Charles signed a one-day contract to retire as a Kansas City Chief earlier this afternoon, but he couldn’t do it if he had one more ceremonial rushing carry.

During practice and with NFL MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes II under center, Charles would take the final handoff to wrap up his 11-year career with the Chiefs, Denver Broncos, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Drafted by the Chiefs in third round in 2008, he played 119 career games, scoring 64 total touchdowns (44 rushing, 20 receiving), and compiled over ten thousand scrimmage yards. Charles was also a four-time Pro Bowler and was the NFL rushing touchdown leader (12) in 2013.
