Jacob deGrom’s days pitching for the New York Mets could be over. According to SNY insider Andy Martino, the Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers are seen as the two teams that the Mets are most worried about signing away deGrom. The Braves are close to deGrom’s home in Florida.
The Mets are going to make a strong offer for deGrom early on, but they won’t get into a free agency bidding war for him. deGrom could surpass Max Scherzer’s record-setting $43.3 million.

deGrom won the National League Cy Young Award in both 2018 and 2019, finished third in the balloting in 2020, and finished ninth in 2021, despite throwing just 92 innings (with a 1.08 ERA and 1.24 FIP). deGrom only made 11 starts in 2022 due to various injury issues, and had a disappointing (for him) 3.08 ERA, but also put up a 2.13 FIP and a 2.24 xERA.
Jacob deGrom’s future with the Mets is perhaps in danger more than ever before and it is a situation worth keeping an eye on over the coming days and weeks.
