Is Tyson Fury going to fight Francis Ngannou?

Written by Noah Gagnon

Absolutely fantastic Thursday for fight fans, as a serious clash of the titans, seems to be in the works. Undisputed Heavyweight King of boxing Tyson Fury is calling out UFC Heavyweight Champ Francis Ngannou in hopes of louring him into the boxing ring for a super fight.

You know, it kinda bothers me that in literally every instance of a ‘superfight,’ the MMA guy always has to go into the boxing ring, and they’ll never go into MMA. Literally every time. Conor, Silva, Frank Mir, Vitor Belfort, kinda Tyron Woodley, all these guys have left MMA to do a fight under strictly boxing rules. How about one time we see a boxer step into the cage. I’ll even be content with some sort of hybrid ruleset like Ngannou proposed.

And to be clear, this isn’t even the UFC homer in me talking, it’s the martial arts fanatic coming out. I don’t really care about the UFC sticking it to boxers (ok, I kinda do), I’m really just curious to see what would happen. How does a world-class boxer deal with a leg kick? Could a guy like Tyson Fury learn how to throw an elbow, or a front kick of his own? Or would that stuff not matter, and the hands of a pro boxer still be too much to deal with? I don’t know. I’d love to find out, but these boxing guys never take any chances. (Except James Toney shoutout him).

But if I’m Francis I really wouldn’t be taking my eyes off Cyril Gane. The fight’s in a little over two weeks, and Ngannou’s currently a betting underdog, so I wouldn’t be taking my eyes off Gane. With that being said, if he goes in there and lights up Gane, a guy who’s supposed to be a stylistic nightmare for him, the demand for a Fury fight could be at an all-time high.
