Is World Championship Wrestling legend Sting (aka Steve Borden) coming to All Elite Wrestling? While it’s wild speculation at this point, fans are looking at two bits of news that suggest the WWE Hall of Famer may show up in AEW. The first is a series of tweets posted by Sting and AEW stars (including AEW Executive Vice-President Cody Rhodes) while the second is Sting apparently being taken out of an upcoming WWE action figure line he was originally slated to appear in.
Let’s start with the tweets. Current AEW star Lance Archer answered a fan’s question about his dream opponent:
Cody’s eyeballs popping out emoji tweet may have been him having some fun with a harmless exchange between a wrestling veteran and an active Superstar. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time a wrestler has used social media to get people talking. However, consider this other piece of evidence. Not too long ago, Ringside Collectibles revealed an upcoming Sting action figure:
However, it looks like Sting has been pulled from the lineup with The Major Wrestling Figure podcast tweeting:
This could be a coincidence or it could be a major story in the making. Keep in mind that Sting is apparently still unable to compete due to him suffering from spinal stenosis. Nonetheless, an appearance in AEW would be great publicity for the promotion and an opportunity for it to possibly draw in WCW viewers who tuned out of wrestling when Ted Turner’s promotion went belly-up in 2001.
