Jim Harbaugh might want to call his former running back De’Veon Smith and tell him that he is sorry.
Back in 2018 a story came out regarding Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh telling his players not to eat chicken and now? De’Veon Smith was cut from the USFL for not wanting to eat a chicken salad.
Here was Harbaughs quote:
“Early in his Michigan tenure, Harbaugh pulled Speight aside and told him not to eat chicken, a protein that is considered fairly safe by nutritionists,” Hayes wrote. “When Speight asked why, Harbaugh said, ‘because it’s a nervous bird.’“
Somewhat a wild quote. But imagine playing for one coach who doesn’t want you to eat chicken and then you play for another coach who decides you’re going to be released for not wanting to eat a chicken salad? A grown man can’t decide what he wants to put in his body? I get that you want to ‘hold players to a high standard’ but this isn’t the NFL even. Let the dude eat what he wants and if his performance on the field sucks, cut him. But to do it over something so soft….
What do you think? Do you think someone should be released over not wanting to eat a chicken salad? If you want to watch the video of him being cut over this, click here!
