Some records are unbeatable and some are meant to be broken, but what Iron Mountain High School senior Foster Wonders tonight put himself in rarified air.

In the Mountaineers’ 63-52 win over Oscoda Thursday night at Sault Ste Marie, Wonders’s 34 points was enough to break the all-time U.P. scoring record, previously held by St. Ignace’s Gage Kreski, who finished his career with 2,178 points.

The record was shattered on this three-point shot captured on video by Upbeat Sports’ Bryce Derioun.

The 34 points was enough to help Iron Mountain clinch the Class C Regional Championship in their respective region.

Wonders spoke with UPMatters.com/WJMN sports director Jake Durant and said he is not thinking of the record currently, and is just looking ahead to finish the season on a high note.

“I’ll probably look back at it more once the season is actually done and just reflect on everything that has happened throughout my high school career,” Wonders told Durant.

“But as of right now, I’m just trying to focus on each game and get as many ‘W’s as we can. It has definitely been cool and all that to see the hard work pay off.”

On behalf of all Yoopers here working at PSE, we offer our congratulations to Wonders in his career and his record-breaking shot. We wish him the best at Southern Illinois University and hope he continues his scoring touch there as well.
