You may or may not know that the former Yankee teammates, shortstop Derek Jeter and shortstop turned third-basemen Alex Rodriguez really don’t like each other. The two could not be any more different. But, it did not start that way. The two young shortstops back in 1995 were pretty similar. They were the young exciting future of the league. After a few years, the tides began to turn when Rodriguez wanted to go for the money and fame, when he signed a 10 year, $252 million contract, and Jeter stayed put in New York. It was during this time when during Rodriguez’ contract discussions with the Mets, he wanted as much fame a baseball player got, which included trying to surpass his good friend in any fame he got before. That included his own PR team, private jets, luxury boxes and “more billboards than Jeter could count”. The crazy demands led to the Mets saying no, and Alex signed in Texas.

At the time, Rodriguez stated that, when talking to media about who could break his record setting contract he said this bout his good friend that “he just doesn’t hit for power numbers, and defensively he doesn’t do all those things” which was strange because he was one of the best defensive players at the time. Rodriguez also thought that Jeter could get as low as $100 million less than himself and said “Jeter is not in my class.”

Rodriguez got traded to the Yankees in 2004, and he moved to third base. Things kept getting wired form there as Alex Rodriguez was a very up and down player in his long tenure in New York, while Jeter was constantly great. The two had a simmering feud through their time together in New York. When it was from Rodriguez’s actions in the 2004 ALCS when he slapped the ball out of the defenders glove on a ground ball or when during that same series, he went 2-17 in the infamous collapse. The media and other teams kept getting Jeter, who likes to stay out of the spotlight and drama, kept getting him involved of his former good friend, Rodriguez’s antics.

That leads us to day when this was tweeted from Aaron Rodriguez.

The last time these two were seen together was during an awkward interview at a charity event, where it was clear that the two did not like each other. But maybe, and hopefully, they squashed the beef that has been going on in the past twenty years.
