Judging from recent rides, 20-year-old bull riding sensation Mason Taylor has found the key to riding Air Time’s son.

The Texan was able to conquer Bill The Butcher, who was previously unridden, for 90-points to win the 15/15 Bucking Battle at Madison Square Garden last Friday night.

Taylor followed that ride up by confidently walking up on to the Can-Am cage Sunday afternoon during the Championship Round draft and picking Bill The Butcher again.

The son of legendary bull AirTime had a perfect record on the premier series of not being ridden. It also appears that the apple did not fall far from the tree as the son appears to be just as much of a beast to ride for 8-seconds as the father was.

Several people were excited about the matchup of the Rookie of the Year contender Mason Taylor against the much-hyped bull who once had a $25,000 bounty on him for any rider making the 8-second whistle on him. That load of loot went to another outstanding bull rider Ezekiel Mitchell who was close to making the whistle but got fouled and was granted a reride. It didn’t count as an official ride, but Zeke was able to claim the bounty.

Previously the bull was an unknown and a bit of an enigma. His outs generally provided the high-kicking highlight reel material his dad provided. But, Bill The Butcher would not always buck aggressively. He was close to being cut from the premier series based on his inconsistent performance.

The bull has been more reliable for great outs and he’s now considered a top bull after being invited back to New York City for the 2020 season-opening event, the Monster Energy Buck Off At The Garden 15/15 Bucking Battle, along with his appearance in the championship round.

The winning 15/15 Bucking Battle ride that earned Mason 50 world points is here:

As pointed out by CBS commentator Justin McBride, the ride demonstrates the potential Mason Taylor showed last season is materializing. He did win the Sioux Falls event last year and was a strong contender for Rookie of the Year based on rides just like the one above.

He was unable to convert on the momentum of the 15/15 in round two but was able to secure a spot in the championship round by notching a notching an 85.25-point ride on With A Bang (1-1).

Taylor appeared confident as he stood atop the Can-Am cage and told Matt West he wanted to pick Bill The Butcher for his championship round bull. While he didn’t point towards the scoreboard, it was a little like Babe Ruth calling his shot; all that remained left to see was if he would have a repeat performance or would he be bucked off?

The second ride can be viewed below:

As you can see from the video, Taylor has found a solution to riding Bill The Butcher for high-points. The rider who calls Maypearl, TX home was able to convert on his opportunity for a rematch and did not disappoint.

It will be interesting to see how he does this weekend in Chicago and if he’s able to improve on his current World No. 4 ranking or not. If these two rides show anything it’s don’t overlook Mason Taylor this season. He has the ability and desire to put up several high-scoring rides in the future.

If fans would like to watch Mason and the world’s best bull riders compete against the world’s best bulls as the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) invade the All-State Arena in Chicago, IL.
