Guardians pitcher breaks hand punching mound

Written by Tony Ghaul

Cleveland Guardians pitcher Zach Plesac punched the mound after allowing a home run to the Mariners Jake Lamb in his last start on Saturday. The Guardians have now placed the right-hander on the IL with a broken pitching hand.

Manager Terry Francona said the best case scenario for Plesac, who is 3-11 with a 4.39 ERA in 23 starts, is he will be placed in a splint and miss a week.

He missed significant time last year after aggressively removing his shirt, and he was sent home in 2020 for violating Covid protocols.

His uncle Dan pitched 18 years and 1,064 MLB games and never went on the injured list.
