Less than a month ago, the Green Bay Packers signed Jaylon Smith in what they hoped would add another cog into a defense that needed a boost.

Less than a month later, the tenure Smith and the Packers ends, as on Tuesday, with hours to go before the 4pm trade deadline, Green Bay is releasing the veteran linebacker.

With the Packers, Smith played in two games and registered one tackle, which came in the win against the Washington Football Team.

Before being released in Dallas, Smith was a tackling machine, as he had three straight 100-plus tackle seasons and had 154 last season for the Cowboys, but then fell out of favor when the Cowboys drafted Micah Parsons and Smith became expendable.

Smith is still 26 years old and with teams always needing help on defense, he shouldn’t stay unemployed for too long, as now that he’s been released, someone can pick him up on the cheap for the remainder of the season.
