Georgia QB Jamie Newman Opts Out of 2020 Season

The hits keep comin. At first people thought that the SEC was invulnerable to opt-outs yet the starting QB and potential Heisman candidate for Georgia has opted out.

This comes a few days after top WR prospect Ja’Marr Chase from LSU made the same decision. Chase I can understand, he’ll probably go in the top-12 of next years draft, but Newman sorta leave me scratching my head. He could’ve been a late first round pick, but he really needed this year to prove it. He had a pretty solid season last year; 2,868 passing yards with 26 TD’s and 11 Int’s, but, he also had a pretty mediocre completion %. Many were looking forward to see how he evolved in Todd Monken’s air-raid offense. Either way, Bulldawg fans shouldn’t be that concerned as they still have J.T. Daniels, who was a former top QB prospect before going to USC.

J.T. was a five-star recruit and even considered as one of the best recruits in years at that position. As long as he stays healthy, things will be all good in Athens. As a UGA fan I might’ve even preferred J.T. over Newman in the first place.
