Former Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius has signed with the Seattle Mariners. He was signed to a minor league deal.
The 33-year-old Gregorius had been playing forAlgodoneros de Unión Laguna of the Mexican League.
Gregorius has struggled his past two seasons with the Phillies and was released by them in August of 2022.
Gregorius signed with Phillies in 2020. In 2022, he hit just .210 in 63 games. The Phillies released him to pave the way for Bryson Stott to play everyday.
Gregorius played for New York Yankees from 2015 to 2019. He had his best years in New York, where he hit hit .270 with 107 homers.
This season, Gregorius has hit .359 with a league-leading 11 homers and 34 RBIs in 117 plate appearances in the Mexican League.
The Mariners needs him to produce. They have had a few of their regulars struggle on offense this year. Second baseman Kolten Wong has an awful .153 batting average so far this year in 130 plate appearances.
