Former New England Patriots safety Sergio Brown is missing and his mother, Myrtle Brown, was found dead at a creek in Maywood, Illinois.
Police are now searching for Sergio, who was reported missing, after authorities were unable to get in contact with him.
Family members notified officers on Saturday that they were unable to contact Sergio Brown and his 73-year-old mother Myrtle Brown.
Officers said that they found Myrtle Brown unresponsive near a creek by her home. Myrtle Brown was later taken to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office and a homicide investigation into her death has now begun.
Sergio Brown signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He was a member of the team that was upset by the New York Giants in Super Bowl 46.
Brown also played for the Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills. He played collegiately at Notre Dame.
