Notre Dame QB Tyler Buchner entered the portal on Tuesday afternoon, took one visit to Alabama, and has now committed to the Crimson Tide.
Buchner had an impressive game against South Carolina in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl, but has lost out to Wake Forest transfer QB Sam Hartman.
Hartman was one of the most historic passers in ACC history, and Buchner was the odd man out. He threw for six touchdowns against eight interceptions in his two-year career with Notre Dame.
Buchner immediately becomes the leading candidate to win the battle for Alabama’s starting QB position.
Buchner’s arrival comes in the wake of an Alabama spring game where QB’s Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson struggled.
Buchner is a former four-star recruit. He reunites with former Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.
Rees recently left Notre Dame to become Alabama’s offensive coordinator.
