Former NFL quarterback Ryan Mallett has died in a drowning at a Destin, Florida beach, as per the Deltaplex News in Arkansas. He was 35 years old.
Mallett was selected in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. During his career that spanned through 2017, he played for the Patriots, Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens. Mallett had eight career NFL starts.
Mallett started his collegiate career at Michigan before transferring to Arkansas for the 2008 season but did not play until 2009 after he was ruled ineligible.
In 2010, Mallett had the best season of his collegiate career, he threw for 3,869 yards and 32 touchdowns and earned 2nd-team All-SEC honors.
Mallett recently accepted a position as head coach of White Hall High School in Arkansas after serving as an assistant there since 2020.
