The Philadelphia Eagles have signed QB Jamie Newman as an undrafted free agent! Newman played his college ball at Wake Forest he then transferred to Georgia and decided to opted out of his only season there because of COVID-19.
Newman is a tall QB standing in at 6 foot 4, 230 pounds. He isn’t your average sized QB.
In 12 games as a junior in 2019, he completed 220 of 261 attempts (60.9 percent) for 2,868 yards (7.9 yards per attempt) and 26 TD passes.
It sucks that no one was able to see what he could have done during his senior year – but that’s what happens when you don’t play because of COVID. Your opportunities become limited but he might actually have a shot at making the roster.
Currently Philly only has Jalen Hurts and Joe Flacco at quarterback – teams seem to have three quarterbacks more often than not. People were even speculating the Eagles would draft another quarterback this year. But can always sign Newman to the practice squad at a later date. For now.. Newman is going to be learning behind Flacco and Hurts. That’s why I believe he might have a shot at making the opening day roster. If he can use Flacco’s knowledge of the game and utilize his skillset like Hurts. The Eagles might have found a solid backup.
10 day’s ago Nick Sirianni, Eagles head coach, wouldn’t even list Hurts as the starter yet – he left the door open for Flacco. The quarterback room will be interesting to say the least. But with Newman’s size, he might find a way to make the roster.
