Eagles players believe Nick Sirianni is NFL Coach of the Year candidate

Written by Tony Ghaul

Some NFL analysts don’t believe Eagles Nick Sirianni is NFL Coach of the Year candidate. His players say, ‘That’s ‘bullsh*t.’

The Eagles are 8-0 and it it seems Head Coach Nick Sirianni can’t get the respect he deserves. Associated Press NFL reporter Rob Maadi believes Sirianni is the leader for the Coach of the Year Award, but other analysts around the league are lobbying for Pete Carroll of the Seattle Seahawks, Brian Daboll of the Giants, Robert Saleh of the Jets, and Kevin O’Connell of the Minnesota Vikings. The award is given by the AP.

SNY NFL reporter Connor Hughes, who covers the Giants and Jets, believes it’s a two-man race for Coach of the Year between Daboll and Saleh. “Winning games with an all-star roster playing a cakewalk schedule doesn’t even begin to compare to what Saleh and Daboll are doing,” Hughes said.

Eagles Left tackle Jordan Mailata wagged his finger at that. “Who said that? That’s a bad take,” he said. “The Giants? Don’t they have, like, 25 first-round picks over there? But we’re too loaded? C’mon, man. That’s ignorance. The guys upstairs put together a great roster this year. There’s no doubt about that. Sure, it looks great on paper, but you have to be able to execute. You have to be able to get players to do it on the field. You have to be able to teach — on the field, in the classroom, in walk-throughs. I think it’s kind of bullsh*t.”

Right tackle Lane Johnson chimed in: “I don’t know how those [bleeping] awards work, but I know [Sirianni] probably doesn’t give a sh*t about it,” Johnson said.

Safety Marcus Epps said he’d wait until the end of the season to count the votes. “He’s been doing a tremendous job,” Epps said. “He definitely has my vote for Coach of the Year, but I can’t get too wrapped up in those things yet. It’s kind of one of those things you look back on at the end of the year.”

Defensive end Brandon Graham laughed at the comment that the Eagles’ strong roster should disqualify Sirianni. “Maybe they want to give it to Daboll because he’s a new coach, but then [Sirianni] was a rookie coach last year, and we went to the playoffs,” Graham said. “Was he a candidate? Because then he should’ve been. It’s all about who’s winning. If Tom Brady were winning, their guy would get Coach of the Year, and you know that. Would they then say, ‘Well, they have Brady, so they’re too loaded”?

The Eagles are on a inevitable march toward the playoffs. They go for their ninth win on Monday night against the Washington Commanders. The Philadelphia Eagles continue to get no respect. No one like us and we don’t care! Go Birds!
