When the Philadelphia Eagles hired Nick Sirianni as head coach on January 24, 2021, a lot of people were scratching their heads. After his introductory press conference, many people were saying he is not head coaching material. People were calling for his firing after a 3 and 6 start to the regular season. Sirianni proved that he was head coach material during the latter part of the season finishing 9 and 8 with a playoff appearance. He made adjustments and went to a run heavy offense, after being a pass heavy offense at the start of the season. He seemed to grow more comfortable as the season went on.
His decision to just be the Head Coach and to stop calling the plays and be more involved in all aspects of the game is great move, as far as I’m concerned. I always wanted the Head Coach to be more of a CEO. This allows his offensive and defensive coordinators to call the plays during the game. He has stated that all the game planning and preparation is done Monday thru Saturday. His job is to make sure everything is done correctly during the week and on game day. He has assembled a coaching that he has confidence in and trusts. Sirianni has showed me that he has all the skills to be a very successful Head Coach.
The Eagles have assembled a great roster with good drafting and key off-season signings. They have a good chance to win this division and a make a deep post season run. Sirianni will be the captain running this ship and with him, I believe that the Eagles are in good hands.
