The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders 26-18 in a big battle for first place in the NFC East.
The Eagles won their sixth straight game and make a statement to the rest of the NFC. They were led star RB Saquon Barkley and another dominant defensive performance.
Barkley ran for 146 yards on 26 carries with two big fourth quarter touchdowns to seal the victory. QB Jalen Hurts had a rushing touchdown, while passing for 221 yards.
The Eagles overcame two missed field goals and a missed extra points by Kicker Jake Elliott. He has now missed 5 field goals this year.
The Eagles dominate defense was story of the game. They held the Commanders offense and star rookie QB Jayden Daniels to 264 yards, 70 of coming on a garbage time touchdown.
Eagles DT Jalen Carter was a dominant force with 7 total tackles. LB Zach Baun was all over the field leading the team 14 total tackles.
LB Nakobe Dean and S Reed Blankenship both had 10 tackles. Blankenship also had a big interception.
The Eagles had 3 sacks on Daniels. Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, and Nolan Smith each had one.
Quinyon Mitchell is having a great rookie season. He may be having the best rookie season an Eagles defensive player has ever had.
That young secondary with Mitchell, fellow rookie Cooper DeJean, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Darius Slay and Blankenship has been a dominant unit over the last six games.
This young defense is talented, hungry, fast and relentless. They are coached by the best Defensive Coordinator in the NFL, Vic Fangio.
Barkley now 1,137 rushing yards this season and leads the NFL. Hurts now has 11 rushing touchdowns. A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert each had big catches on the night.
Head Coach Nick Sirianni deserves a ton of credit for the job that he’s doing. The Eagles are 8-2 and have won six in a row.
The Eagles next game is on Sunday, November 24 on the road against the Los Angeles Rams.
