Dominic Thiem Wins the 2020 U.S. Open For His First Major Championship – @USOpen

Written by SpaceGhostChedd

Dominic Thiem is your 2020 U.S. Open Champion. He defeated Alexander Zverev in 5 sets; 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6. It was a thrilling match and the tie-breaker in the last set was awesome. What an effort by Thiem. He was clearly limping at the end and he still pulled it together in impressive fashion. True grit.

After going down by 2 sets, it looked that Zverev would take it, but it seemed like maybe the moment was too big for him. The young German is very talented and one of my favorite players to watch, but he hasn’t been able to put it all together yet. He will in due time, but it was Thiem’s time today. The Austrian seemed to get better and better as the tournament progressed over the past two weeks. Feels good for Dominic to break through and looking forward to what both of the competitors today will accomplish in the future.
