Dolphins Exercised Fifth-Year Option On Tua Tagovailoa’s Contract

The Miami Dolphins have exercised their fifth-year option on QB Tua Tagovailoa’s rookie contract, the NFL team announced on Monday.

By exercising their option, the Dolphins are guaranteeing Tagovailoa $23.171 million for the 2024 season.

The Dolphins selected Tagovailoa with the fifth pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year, $30.275 million contract, and like the rookie deals of all first-round draft picks, it contained a team option for a fifth season.

The move strengthens the Dolphins commitment to Tagovailoa for the next two seasons despite the concussion issues that caused him to miss significant time during the 2022 season.

Last season, Tagovailoa threw for 3,548 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 64.8 percent of his passes.

The Dolphins will have to find a way to keep Tua healthy.
