Earlier this week, famed rapper DMX MX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, allegedly overdosed on drugs and found himself in a coma and on life support. For the majority of the week, the prognosis has been deemed “not good.”
The rapper’s lawyer, Murray Richman, told The Associated Press on Saturday evening that DMX was admitted to New York’s White Plains Hospital and that “he’s quite ill.”
As of Sunday afternoon, Simmons was said to still be in a “vegetative state,” according to his former manager, who said she has been in contact with his family. “We’re just praying,” the ex-manager, Nakia Walker, said, adding that some of Mr. Simmons’s relatives had been allowed to see Mr. Simmons in the hospital.
Late Thursday evening, word had gotten out that DMX had passed away. The news spread viral across social media platforms with various hashtags in tribute to the rap icon. Celebrities, fans and artists alike paid their respect to Simmons.
Shortly thereafter, conflicting reports arose claiming that DMX has not passed away and that social media had gotten ahead of itself. In the video below, DMX’s manager Steve Rifkind indicated Simmons was still very much alive.
