Detroit’s Kerby Joseph Named NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Written by Nate

Last week in their 15-9 win over arch rival Green Bay Packers, one Detroit Lions player made a surprising breakout performance that earned him weekly honors.

Per Ari Meirov on Twitter, the NFL has announced that Lions rookie safety Kerby Joseph was named NFC defensive player of the week. It is the first time ever in team history that a Lions rookie has earned those honors.

The rookie out of University of Illinois earned those honors after accounting for 10 tackles, three passes defended, and two interceptions against all-Pro quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Another Lions rookie in edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson also recorded an interception off Rodgers as well.

Even if the Lions has the league’s worst defense this season, it is promising for the future to see two rookies show up and ball out against Green Bay of all teams.
