Detroit Tigers Fans Planning a ‘Fire Al Night’ at Comerica Park

Written by Nate

After coming in with expectations to compete for a wild card spot, the Detroit Tigers are continuing on what is a nightmarish 2022 season. It also had gotten worse as they sitting at a 38-58 record, fourth place in the AL Central.

Tigers fans are rightfully frustrated with the results, and several of them are planning to make their voices heard towards the team’s front office at an upcoming game.

User @SamTomasi2 is sharing around on Twitter (including in a tweet to Woodward Sports) that a few sections of Detroit’s Comerica Park will be putting on a ‘Fire Al’ night on July 26th in a game against the San Diego Padres. The event is set so Tigers fans can yell and call for the firing of general manager Al Avila.

If you’d like a summary of why fans want Avila out of the GM job, here’s a couple tweets summarizing his failures:

Do we need to say more?

It is Avila’s SEVENTH year as Tigers GM, the team has gotten completely worse since he took over, he has gotten nothing great in his returns from trades, and both of his No. 1 overall picks have not developed well since they got drafted.

This is also a message to Chris Ilitch. Detroit fans know he doesn’t like spending a lot of money and is more of a businessman, but it is time to fire someone to show that he cares about the team and the organization.

It’s time. Oh, and one more thing: Fire Al Avila!
