The Lions lost to the Green Bay Packers 35-17 last night and have come away with a big loss to their secondary. Rookie CB Ifeatu Melifonwu went down in the game and news came out today that he will be down for a “Significant amount of time” with a quad injury. Ifeatu Melifnowu aka Iffy is a 6’3 CB from Syracuse that has all of the tools to be a really good and even elite CB in the NFL. He has the speed, length, and mental makeup to be in the league for years to come, and now with him down his development is taking a big hit.

This injury hurts, even more, considering the Lions just lost second-year CB Jeff Okudah for the year in week 1 with a torn Achilles and Ifeatu was to take the majority of the snaps in place of Okudah. Possibly two main pieces to the defense for years to come to get hurt back to back weeks in a year that is all about looking toward the future is brutal.

There is still a chance Melifonwu could see the field again this year barring any setbacks from the quad injury, which would let the staff know how he fits for years to come.

Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery for Iffy and a long NFL career.
