The Los Angeles Clippers plan to sign DeMarcus Cousins to an initial 10-day contract. Cousins will give the Clippers additional depth at center behind Ivica Zubac and Serge Ibaka and more scoring power to go against the new super teams being made around the NBA. Before being released by the Houston Rockets, Cousins averaged 9.6 points and nearly 8 rebounds off the bench and can certainly help the Clippers with interior defense and stretching the floor. But the question is, does adding Demarcus Cousins and even trading for Rajon Rondo make them better than the Lakers? Without Anthony Davis and LeBron James on the court of course they’re better, but when both teams are healthy the Lakers are the more talented team on paper. The question is can the Clippers establish their identity as the best perimeter defensive team in the league? Because even with Patrick Beverley, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and Serge Ibaka they’re behind the Lakers in defensive rating with the 11th best rating, compared the Lakers 1st even without their best interior defender in Anthony Davis.

The Los Angeles Clippers have been known to play down to their opponent, which can be scary come playoff time. Last night the Clippers couldn’t close against the Orlando Magic, who’s record stands at 16-31 and recently just got rid of half their talent due to trades. The Lakers haven’t looked good without their star players, so both teams need to get it together if they’re planning to contend for a title. A good question to ask whoever is reading this would be if both teams were completely healthy, who do you got in a playoff series?
