David Montgomery Leaving Chicago to Join with Rival Lions

Written by Nate

As the Detroit Lions focused on addressing the defense (specifically secondary) in the free agency period, the team has now shifted towards the glaring needs on offense.

And help will be coming from a division rival team as running back David Montgomery will be leaving the Chicago Bears to sign with Detroit on a three-year deal. The deal is set for $18 million, $6 million per year via Tom Peliserro and Ian Rapoport.

After four seasons in the Windy City, Montgomery comes to the Motor City as one of the more underrated running backs in the league when healthy.

The former third-round pick out of Iowa State finished his 2022 season with 801 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns, along with 316 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.

He’ll most likely be the replacement for Jamaal Williams, who scored a team record 17 rushing touchdowns on the year. Montgomery will be joining a potentially changing running back room with the likes of recently re-signed Craig Reynolds and fellow running back D’Andre Swift, and fullback Jason Cabinda.
