NXT’s already stagnant tag team division has suffered another major hit, as its champions Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan have been forced to relinquish the championships due to an injury suffered by the former on last week’s episode of NXT.
Confirmed by the Bump’s Matt Camp, Burch’s injury was suffered in a title defense against current and former NXT Champions Finn Balor and Karrion Kross, who will face each other at the upcoming Takeover event. Burch and Lorcan had been champions since October following a victory over Breezango, and were champions for 153 total days.
NXT General Manager William Regal has confirmed that the championships are now vacant, marking the second time in the championships lineage that such as happened, the other being the War Raiders call up.
It’s noted that Regal will be addressing the situation on Wednesday’s NXT. Potential championship options going forward include The Grizzled Young Veterans, MSK, Ever Rise and The Way.
