Conor McGregor Calls Out UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman

Written by Incognito

UFC superstar Conor McGregor (22-6) has been out of commission since July 2021 where he suffered a devastating TKO via doctor stoppage against lightweight Dustin Poirier (28-7). McGregor broke his left tibia in the first round and underwent surgery shortly after the the fight. McGregor has been recovering since July and has still managed to stay in the headlines.

McGregor’s twitter rants have continued to fuel feuds with Dustin Poirier, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Henry Cejudo, and Kamaru Usman. McGregor was interviewed by his own media company, The Mac Life, and said he is eyeballing a Summer 2021 comeback fight against welterweight champion Kamaru Usman (20-1).

“I believe that’s the fight to make…I believe myself vs Usman for the 170 pound title for my comeback fight is the one I’m eyeballing at the minute.”

McGregor talked about returning to the octagon at a heavier weight and has extinguished any discussions about him returning to a lighter weight class. McGregor also sees holes in Usman’s skills that he can exploit.

“For what cut the weight? I’ve already won the 155 pound title. I got myself down to the lightweight frame, but I’m big now. I feel big. I feel strong. I feel healthy. You know I’ve got good energy. I’m coming back after a gruesome injury…I don’t want to deplete myself. There should be no need to deplete myself and I feel confident against Usman. A jab happy, sloppy, orthodox wrestler with no submissions whatsoever. What’s he going to do? Where’s the danger here? I don’t see a danger with him. His ground and pound isn’t strong…plus he’s on the older side.”

McGregor has famously won the featherweight and lightweight titles and has his eyes set on the welterweight title. McGregor winning a title in a third division would further cement his legacy in the UFC history books as holding a title in three weight classes has yet to be accomplished.

UFC President, Dana White, fueled the rumor mill by admitting to the media that a potential championship fight between McGregor and Usman is “interesting” and would be a lucrative fight.
