Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Taylor has requested a trade from the team, per Ian Rapoport.
Taylor’s agent, Malki Kawa, has basically confirmed Rapoport’s report by retweeting Rapoport’s tweet.
The relationship between Colts owner Jim Irsay and star RB Jonathan Taylor has soured after a meeting the two had on the team’s bus on Saturday.
Taylor wants a contract extension that will pay him at the top of the highest paid running backs.
Taylor is a player that the Colts need on offense with a rookie Head Coach in Shane Steichen, rookie 1st round draft pick Anthony Richardson or journeyman Gardner Minshew at QB. Taylor would take a lot of pressure off of who is under center.
NFL teams have been devaluing the position and now seem to be unwilling to give contract extensions or top contracts to running backs after they finish their rookie deals.
Taylor was the 2021 NFL rushing leader and he has been the Colts top offensive weapon throughout his time in Indianapolis.
For his career, Taylor has 3,841 rushing yards, 33 touchdowns and an average of 5.1 yards per carry.
For the 2022 season, Taylor rushed for 861 yards on 192 carries for an average of 4.5 yards and 4 touchdowns in 11 games.
The Colts selected Taylor in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Wisconsin.
