George Mason pitcher Sang Ho Baek passed away on Saturday following complications after Tommy John surgery. According to TMZ, it was due to a blood clot. Obviously, devastating and shocking news for friends and family of the 20 year old rising star.

Fellow George Mason baseball friend Scott Morgan has already organized a GoFundMe page to help out.

Thus far, nearly $10,000 have been raised in just a few days. Amazing outpouring of support. The Baek family will receive 100% of the donations. Here is the full statement on the GoFundMe website:

“Sang was a member of the 2021 George Mason Baseball team. After battling through injuries throughout the season, Sang required Tommy John surgery. He suddenly passed away due to complications with his surgery. As a team, we are all mourning his passing. We are asking for donations in order to support Sang’s family through this difficult time. Any and all donations are appreciated, and the Baek family will receive all of the proceeds.”

Bill Brown, the team’s head coach commented:

“We are devastated by the passing of Sang. Sang was an incredible teammate who was loved by everyone associated with Mason baseball. He will be missed and forever cherished in our hearts. Right now, our thoughts are with Sang’s family at this unbearably difficult time.”

Baek led his 2019 high school team (James M. Bennette) to a state title. This guy had the whole world in front of him. Just another heartbreaking reminder how quickly life can change. I suggest that any and all donations go a long way. I will be heading over there right now to do my part to help out the family…
