Cody Garbrandt to Make Flyweight Debut

As per Damon Martin and Mike Heck, former UFC Bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt is set to make his flyweight debut on December 11 against Kai Kara-France. Despite being a former champ, Cody has dropped 4 of 5, most recently losing a 5-round decision to Rob Font. Perhaps this will act as a career reset for Cody, as his back is certainly up against the wall due to this recent skid.

I don’t have this confirmed, but I feel like Cody’s gotta be one of the biggest, if not the biggest guy in this division. Cody’s 5’8, and claims to walk around at just over 145 pounds. And I guarantee he’s already amongst the hardest hitters at flyweight, this guy could probably put the lights out on some welterweights, so I can’t imagine what would happen if he lands on a flyweight. But, will the size and power advantage be enough for Cody? I have no idea, that’s a question for Joe Rogan.

But, what I do know is that move creates the potential for some awesome matchups at 125. Could you imagine Deveison Figueredo vs Cody Garbrandt? Somebody’s head would literally end up in the third row of the stands before the first round came to an end. And let’s say Cody goes on a run and gets the 125 belt, and TJ Dillashaw goes on a run and gets the 135 belt. Now we’ve got the chance for Cody vs TJ 3 with two belts on the line! That’s porn! I love this move.
