Willson Contreras is in agreement on a five-year deal with the St. Louis Cardinals, per Ken Rosenthal.
Jon Morosi of MLB Network says the two sides are now in agreement on a five-year deal. It will pay Contreras $87.5MM, per Jesse Rogers of ESPN.
Contreras is a three-time All-Star. He’ll join Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt as right-handed presences in the middle of the Cardinals lineup. Contreras hit .243 with 22 home runs and 55 RBIs in 2022.
Contreras will have massive shoes to fill, as he’s replacing Yadier Molina behind the plate in St. Louis. The 10-time All-Star retired after the 2022 season.
