Written by Tony Ghaul

The Cleveland Browns have hired Jim Schwartz as their new defensive coordinator.

Schwartz beat out Brian Flores, Sean Desai, and Dennard Wilson for the job. Cleveland was able to interview each of these candidates.

Schwartz is most remembered for leading the Detroit Lions from 2009-13, then he spent stints as the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator. Since 2021, Schwartz has been a defensive assistant with the Tennessee Titans organization.

As Head Coach of the Lions from 2009-13, Schwartz went 29-51, but guided them to a 10-6 record and wild card berth in 2011 to snap an 11-year playoff drought. They lost 45-28 to the Saints in the wild card round.

Schwartz was defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2016 to 2020. He helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl after the 2017 season, defeating the New England Patriots, 41-33.

Prior to being the Head Coach of the Lions, Schwartz spent 10 seasons with the Titans, where they appeared in Super Bowl XXXIV, played in two AFC Championship Games, captured three division titles and earned six playoff berths.
