BREAKING: The NBA 2K21 Cover Star has been Revealed!

Written by Trent Osborne

After weeks of speculation, the cover athlete of this year’s installment to the NBA2K franchise has been revealed. One of them, that is.

The first player to grace the cover of NBA2K21 is Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard. The five-time All-Star is currently having the best season of his career, averaging career highs in Points (28.9) and Assists (7.8).

In a post from the official NBA2K Twitter account, it was announced that Dame would be the “Current Gen” cover star, leading many to speculate that the former rookie of the year would only find himself on the front of the PS4 & Xbox One versions of the game. Further adding to this theory, Bleacher Report announced that Lillard is “The first of three athletes revealed to be on the cover” of the game.

Anyone who is a follower of the franchise knows that sharing the spotlight is nothing new to the 2K series. NBA legends such as Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Shaquille O’Neal have all shared the cover of the game in the past. The last player to serve as the sole cover star was Kevin Durant back in 2014.

As for who the other two players who’ll get their own editions of the game, there’s no knowing as of right now. Although, some educated guesses could be made.

It’s pretty safe to assume that the late Kobe Bryant will find himself onto the cover as a way to honor him after his tragic passing earlier this year.

As for the third and final athlete, 2K could be looking towards the future. In the announcement trailer for the game that was released earlier this month only one player featured in the spot: Pelicans forward Zion Williamson. If the 2019 first overall pick does get the nod, he would be the youngest cover athlete in NBA 2K history.

NBA 2K21 is set to release this Fall.
