The San Diego Padres and Machado have agreed to an 11-year contract extension worth $350 million, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. After leading San Diego to its first playoff run in a long time.
Machado had initially signed a 10-year, $300 million deal with the Padres prior to the 2019 season, but there was an opt-out on his deal after this coming season. Machado had made $108 million of that deal and was set to make $32 million this season.
Machado hit .298 with 37 doubles, 32 homers, 102 RBI and100 runs last season. He finished second in NL MVP voting and made his sixth All-Star team.
The Padres went 89-73 and secured a wild-card spot. They made it to the NLCS, where they were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Padres now have Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr, Xander Bogaerts, You Darvish, and Joe Musgrove all signed to nine-figure deals that go deep into the future.
